Our medically supervised program is for our patients with diabetes but is also open to patients who have pre-diabetes or don’t have diabetes at all. People with diabetes frequently reduce their blood-sugar-lowering medication, including insulin, by losing weight on the NextStepMD program. We focus not only on weight loss but maintaining the weight loss long-term.
As your NextStepMD health and wellness coaches, we offer one-on-one sessions and work closely with our patients to recommend the methods that offer the greatest opportunities of success. Our goal is to educate, motivate and support you through your weight loss journey. Our programs are medically designed with two components – sensible weight loss and sustainable, stable weight maintenance. Our weight loss strategies include the use of nutrition education, diet and exercise plans as well as FDA-approved weight loss medications if necessary.
One of the exclusive weight loss methods that we utilize is Muscle Wise Nutrition (MWN). This protocol includes 3 phases, and the weight loss phase is designed to be a low calorie, low fat, high satiety plan that allows you to eat frequently throughout the day. Eating small frequent meals helps to keep you feeling satisfied and helps keep your metabolism stoked. The Muscle Wise Nutrition plans are easy to follow and provides lots of variety and choice so you will never feel deprived. In the weight loss phase of the program, the meal plans are designed to be calorie and carbohydrate controlled so that you use stored body fat as the primary source of energy (i.e.calories). The plans also provide plenty of protein to help you preserve your lean muscle mass. This “formula” of macronutrients will help you achieve the weight loss results you desire.
While following the Muscle Wise Nutrition protocol, your pancreas will get a well-deserved break by limiting simple and complex carbs until your weight loss goal is achieved. The emphasis here again is weight maintenance once a healthy balance is achieved.
